Another 1st in the 3/45, "kicker" had an ultrabig stack before final table (approx 23K, while I had approx 8K as nr. 2 or 3). Anyway, we finally get heads-up and he seemed very tight (I did my usual AI with Arag, etc., but he didn't bite). Still, he managed some nice steals and I wasn't sure about his style (no notes prior to FT as he was at other tables all along).
BTW;
ReplyDeleteHU is from HH 77 through 150 (the longest HU I have ever been involved in)
Nicely, nicely, MrSmith! A classic HU battle in that the stacks were almost exactly even after 72 hands and then it was all over in one hand when both players woke up with hands they (correctly) couldn't get away from pre-flop (AT versus 99).
ReplyDeleteJust a couple of general comments which you can probably already anticipate based upon things I've said in the past. I liked your aggressiveness pre-flop with AT+. Overbetting all-in pre-flop with hands like KQ, Ax and 22 obviously worked against this opponent, who seemed rather straightforward, but against a trickier, more observant opponent I think this approach will ultimately get you trapped too often for it to be profitable. Finally, he didn't seem to be attacking your button limps very aggressively, at least at the beginning, so I would probably have played at least some of the hands you folded on the button.
BTW, I know you're not a book guy but Moshman put one out specifically on HU play which I like even better than his book on SNGs. And if your bankroll can stand it, I highly recommend the experience of playing a bunch of $5 and then $10 HU matches. It's not a big money winner due to the high variance in low stakes HU play (I think I probably broke about even) but you very quickly get to see a wide range of HU styles and get a lot of practice shifting gears.
